Fact Check – Before you sign a contract for immigration service

  • You do not need an agent company for your immigration application
  • An agent company can act as a middleman between you and your immigration consultant in relaying information back and forth, collecting and forwarding documents to the immigration consultant, etc. However, an agent company does not have any privileges to contact immigration offices on your behalf.
  • Licensed immigration consultants are allowed by law to conduct business on your behalf with IRB, CBSA and IRCC.
  • You must sign a contract only with a licensed immigration consultant and not an agent company.
  • While an agent company must be registered with ICCRC, the regulating body for immigration consultants, your licensed immigration consultant is legally responsible to deliver the service agreed upon on the retainer/contract.
  • Refuse to sign a contract that does not have the license number and the name of a registered immigration consultant verifiable at ICCRC
